HerbalismWhat is Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM)? CHM works through the physiological action of the herbs, and pays special attention to the powers utilised through combinations of herbs. For example, a Chinese herbalist will choose a herb for a specific effect and complement it with another herb that will increase that beneficial effect. A herbal formula is designed to suit the individual - there is never one prescription for everyone who has the same symptoms and this is what makes it especially effective. |

A compound of at least three or four herbs (usually many more) may be designed to address the person’s particular needs. There are many ways to take the Chinese herbs such as a tea that has been cooked, as a powder (like making instant coffee), or as small pills. Whether you take it as a tea, powder, or in pills will depend on your own circumstances and will be discussed during the consultation. All herbal medicines are 100% herbal. All mineral and animal products are not allowed for use in the UK at present. Chinese herbs are the main treatment for skin problems although herbs and acupuncture are often used together for many complaints. |
